Safe hands, safe work.
How we look after our team, our drivers and our customers under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.
Our commitment
Ace Laundry Service is committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace for our team, our drivers, our customers and the public. We manage health and safety in line with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 (HSWA) and its regulations, and we treat it as part of how we do business — not an add-on.
Everyone at Ace Laundry, from the owner to our newest team member, shares responsibility for keeping each other safe.
How we manage risk
We identify hazards in our laundry and on the road, assess the risks and put controls in place. This includes safe systems for machinery, chemical handling, manual handling, heat and steam, slips and trips, and driving.
We review our risks regularly and after any incident, and we update our controls when work changes — new equipment, new products or new processes.
Chemical safety
Detergents, solvents and cleaning agents are stored, labelled and used in accordance with the Hazardous Substances regulations and each product’s safety data sheet (SDS). Safety data sheets are kept on site and our team is trained in safe handling, dilution and spill response.
We choose lower-hazard products where they do the job well, and personal protective equipment — gloves, aprons and eye protection — is provided and worn wherever the task requires it.
Machinery and equipment
Washers, dryers, presses and other equipment are maintained on a regular schedule and guarded in line with the manufacturer’s instructions. Faulty equipment is taken out of service immediately and only returned to use after repair.
Only trained team members operate machinery, and lockout steps are followed before any cleaning, clearing of blockages or maintenance.
Manual handling and hygiene
Laundry work involves lifting, carrying and repetitive movement. We train our team in safe lifting techniques, use trolleys and carts to move loads, and rotate tasks through the day to reduce strain.
Soiled laundry is handled with gloves and good hygiene practice. Handwashing facilities are available, and team members are asked to stay home when unwell.
Safe on the road
Our drivers hold current licences, follow the road rules and never use a phone while driving. Vehicles are maintained and loads are secured before every trip. Pickup and delivery windows are scheduled so drivers are never pressured to rush.
Training, reporting and emergencies
Every team member receives a health and safety induction and ongoing training for the tasks they do. We keep a hazard register, and all incidents and near-misses are reported, recorded and investigated so we can prevent them happening again.
Fire extinguishers, first aid kits and emergency exits are maintained and clearly marked, and our team knows the evacuation procedure. Notifiable events are reported to WorkSafe New Zealand as required by law.
Keeping customers safe
Please tell us in the driver notes about anything we should know for a safe pickup — dogs, steps, access hazards or items that may be contaminated (for example with chemicals, sharp objects or biological material). We may decline items that present a risk we cannot safely manage, and we will always explain why.
